I did come across an interesting document in the Adobe site: There was a Windows update alert on my computer so I downloaded them. And that MS download was offline so got from Lenovo site wouldn’t install as it thought it wasn’t needed.

I have a ‘generic’ home built box, with Realtec Audio card. As usual Audio device is not working. I can’t get audio in IE or even in the sound control panel when trying to preview system sounds. I’ve uninstalled SP3 and Quicktime.

The same thing is under “Voice” tab. I have the normal computer sounds startup, shutdown, etc. Register Sign In Help.

We now have sound. But didn’t think and installed MS updates first incl SP3 without finishing installing all the drivers first. Can anyone provide help. Everything installed fine, except my sound card, which isn’t even detected by Windows. They require specific drivers from the laptop maker. Laptops cannot use generic drivers like desktops can. Your steps worked, but first I had to find the correctdriver.


The Sound playback is set to “Soundmax Digital Audio” which is the only option available in the drop down box. Yesterday, after 2 months of not using the laptop, I set it up again and now the port isn’t recognized.
